Presenters

Betsy Hawley, MA, Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition

Betsy Hawley has worked in nonprofit administration for the last 25 years and in pediatric palliative and hospice care since 2008.  She has been the Executive Director of the Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition since its formation in 2012.  In that role, she advocates for pediatric palliative and hospice care across in Pennsylvania and across the nation. 

 

Carol May, RN, MSN, MBA, CHPPN, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC

Carol May is the manager of the Supportive Care Program at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She developed and maintains the pediatric palliative care program at CHP providing palliative care consultation on advanced care planning, decision-making support, pain and symptom management, care coordination, end-of-life care, and bereavement services for children with a life-threatening illness or injury and their families.  She co-founded a perinatal palliative care program at the University of Pittsburgh with the physician leadership of the palliative care program and colleagues from obstetrics, genetics, and neonatology. Carol received a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Carlow University and Master’s of Nursing and Business from Duquesne University.
