Social Worker & Chaplain Series: Psychosocial & Spiritual Aspects of Pain & Suffering In-Depth  (Webinar &149*)

Nationally, conversations continue to evolve regarding the role of social workers and chaplains in pain and symptom management.  The role suffering plays in exacerbating physical pain and the importance of skillfully addressing it to better manage pain are widely known.  Interdisciplinary teams exist for a reason and this topic is at the heart of true interdisciplinary care.  Join us for an in-depth look at specific skills, techniques, and interventions for the complex situations chaplains and social workers routinely encounter.

Highlights

  • Discuss the direct connection between psychosocial/spiritual suffering and physical symptomology and pain
  • Challenges related to chaplains and social workers intervening in isolation from the medically focused team members
  • Discuss the notion that “team conversations” about care are not enough when addressing severe psychosocial/spiritual suffering
  • Present tools to assess both psychosocial and spiritual suffering and distress
  • Explore skills and specific interventions to address suffering on the individual and team levels
  • Apply above tools, skills, and interventions to case examples

Take-Away Tool Kit

  • Examples of psychosocial, spiritual suffering/distress assessments
  • Process to discuss and plan for coordinated team interventions
  • Examples of skills application to specific situations
  • Handout with additional lecture notes
  • Extensive list of resources at the end of the handout and additional resources about specific topics throughout the handout.

Who Should Attend

This important webinar is designed to discuss psychosocial and spiritual suffering.  While this information is vital for chaplains and social workers, the emphasis will be on ensuring that all team members are familiar with their specific work to address suffering.  Managers and leadership will also benefit from this topic.
